The Lemon: Chicago Welcome Party was hosted at Spiaggia on 8/7. The Welcome Party included noted guests and chef community luminaries such as Paul Kahan, Donnie Madia, Tony Mantuano, Joe Flamm, and more. The party served as the exclusive kickoff event for the annual Lemon: Chicago Fundraising Event. Lemon: Chicago is a fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, an organization that helps fund childhood cancer research. The event includes 30 chefs serving signature dishes and live and silent auctions for the guests to participate in, raising massive amounts of money and drawing the best and brightest chefs on the national culinary scene to support through cooking and donation.

Yes, it’s already time to think about Christmas! The Goodman Theatre is hosting auditions for A Christmas Carol coming up on August 12th. Here’s what you need to know…

WHAT/WHEN: Goodman Theatre will host open auditions for young performers for the 40th annual production of A Christmas Carol on Saturday, August 12 from 9am – 2pm
Young performers (ages 5-17 only, no exceptions!) wishing to audition for this production should prepare the following materials:
· One minute or less poem or monologue, which should be memorized
· One verse of a song (preferably a traditional holiday song or Christmas carol) to be sung a cappella (no piano or accompaniment will be provided)
· A photo and resume or list of previous theatrical experience and training (theater experience is not required to audition)

Young performers should come to Goodman Theatre at 8:30am on Saturday, August 12 to register for an audition time on a first come, first served basis. Registration will end at 10:30 am sharp.
Auditions will begin at 9am and are estimated to end at 2pm. This is an open call with same day registration only; no audition appointments will be scheduled prior to this audition date.

Goodman Theatre welcomes young performers of all races, ethnicity, national origin, religion, mental and physical abilities, sexual/affectional orientation, gender and its expression.

Shoreline Sightseeing will host a first-of-its-kind Illinois Made Cruise featuring food and beverages from “Illinois Made” artisans. Shoreline is partnering with the Illinois Office of Tourism for this new cruise taking place on Friday  August 4. Launched in July 2016, Illinois Made is an ongoing program that recognizes the artisans, products and experiences that are unique to the state.

The following Illinois Made providers will be on hand sampling their custom beverage and food products:

Blaum Bros. Distilling Co. of Galena, IL  will sample an assortment of their fine whiskeys and vodkas.

Whiskey Acres  Distilling Co. of DeKalb, IL, will bring a variety of its farm-to-distillery beverages.

Tangled Roots of Ottawa, IL will sample its craft beers featuring locally grown and sourced ingredients..


Cafe Tola of Chicago, IL will sample its famous empanadas


The Illinois Made cruise will feature samplings from additional Illinois Made food and beverage artisans. The evening  will include a 90-minute Shoreline cruise on the Chicago River offering spectacular views and excellent photo opportunities of Chicago’s brilliantly lit nighttime skyline. Chicago musician Owen Stevenson will entertain for the evening.

The Illinois Made Cruise will depart from Shoreline’s dock at Polk Bros Park at the southwest corner of Navy Pier at 8:00 p.m., returning at 9:30 p.m. Boarding will begin 15 minutes prior to departure. A cash bar will be available.

All are invited to join Chicago Fire Soccer Club’s players and coaches to “go all in on red” celebrating the 20th anniversary season with a casino night-themed gala. The evening will benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation, the club’s charitable organization that is committed to enhance the lives of disadvantaged youth throughout Chicagoland.

The night will feature a mix and mingle with the Fire players and coaching staff during the mid-summer event while enjoying a selection of cocktails and drinks alongside stationed bites. Casino games will also be another fun aspect of the event, in addition to a photo booth, and beats from notable Chicago DJ, DJ Step. Current and former Fire players will be in attendance at celebration, which is set to be one of the hottest summer bashes this year.

Jena Friedman, comedian best known for her special and album American Cu*t and her work on The Daily Show, is coming to Chicago! She’ll be doing a special performance as part of the 4th Annual, “26th Annual Comedy Festival” at one of Jena Friedman’s favorite Chicago venues, The Hideout: 1354 W. Jena Friedman got her start in comedy in the city of Chicago after graduating from Northwestern. In the three years after college, she spent her time honing her comedy skills in venues like The Hideout, and co-founded the renowned monthly show ENTERTAINING JULIA at Town Hall Pub before handing it off to colleague and fellow comedian, Beth Stelling and co.

Friedman has had an exciting string of recent events and releases, as one of the Colbert Election Special panelists, co-star of UNDECIDED the movie, and of course the release of her hour of comedy taped at the Slipper Room in NYC, American Cu*t which Paste Magazine named one of the Top 10 Comedy Specials of 2016. I had a blast the other night as the red carpet host for the brand new luxury magazine that has come to Chicago: ChicagoMod. The event was super glamorous and loaded with stars including Monica Raymond and Miranda Rae Mayo from Chicago Fire, several stars from Hamilton and more. It took place at Morgan Manufacturing in the Loop. Chicago Fire star Taylor Kinney donned the inaugural cover and I had the opportunity to interview him on the red carpet.
